The Best Part of Emerging Technology
The best part about emerging technology is that it is continually changing. What we know about technology, the internet, and social media will always have new data. We have learned that trends for Millennials are not the same for Gen X'ers. Millennials are the last generation to know life without in-home computers, wifi, tablets, and cell phones. Gen X'ers are the generation growing up knowing how to access the internet before preschool. We learned the effects of excessive use of digital devices in children, but as we lead to a world submerged into the digital universe, how do we challenge a child to play outside without their phones or tablets? We may never have an answer to that as those children grow into adults; they will only teach their children what they know.
Over time we have watched handheld devices change from iPods to listen to music to phones and tablets to do complete research papers. We have watched physical newspapers struggle to stay afloat or turn to online moguls, and "celebrities" are now influencers who film content in their homes. Brands no longer struggle to reach potential customers because the internet works for them. We participate in crowdsourcing more than we are ready to admit. Companies post questionnaires, challenges, and promotions we participate in. What we know about word of mouth is now posted on social media and company review boards.
We use social media to connect with friends and family and find new love. Social media is the new social club. I know there is much to look forward to with emerging media, but my favorite is tablets. I can read any book, design any graphic, check social media, facetime my friends, and do homework from anywhere in the world. I travel a lot, so that is important to me.
What is your favorite part of today's technology?
